Learn More About Trust & Safety
Before we can provide volunteer/educational assistance, we must first assure the safety and correct conduct of all participants. At Good Team, we take this very seriously and have rigorous safety precautions in place to both prevent incidents and manage them promptly if they occur.

Background Checks
Our base platform only allows connection between user-added and approved accounts. Meaning there is no possibility of access/connection/viewability between accounts that were not personally added and approved by the account holder themselves (and all account holders must be at least 18). For our volunteer programs, where users may come into contact with other users they did not previously know, Good Team only utilizes volunteers from pre-existing companies & groups (as opposed to individuals from the general public) that have already completed basic background checks as part of that affiliation, and/or can verify participant reputability to the satisfaction of the guardians & administrators of the groups we are helping (we do not have the resources to execute background checks for all participants directly). Additionally, for any volunteers who meet the definition of "Regular" participant (more than 16 hours per month or 32 hours per year), we will perform additional screening and background checks, including National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR), as is required in many jurisdictions and is best practice in all.
Training & Assurances
All users receive training
on what is considered appropriate and inappropriate during these sessions, as well as other best practices in terms of safety. This information is then confirmed as having been received, and reiterated in the written guides which are always available to participants.
This training also extends to
program administrators
(teachers/parents/guardians), who are instructed to convey a number of incident prevention techniques to participants in the program, including regular reminders on what is considered appropriate and the need to notify an adult should an issue arise.
Adult-Controlled Account Access (No Accounts for Kids)
Student participants will only be able to access sessions through the administrator account for that program, which for student programs will be a teacher or other adult designated by the organization. If we do expand to allowing individual user accounts for program attendees (e.g. for situations such as tutoring), kids under 13 will still be prohibited from making accounts. This protects against unsupervised access to the platform and prevents child related data from existing on our servers.
Furthermore, our use of a waiting room and the fact that volunteers must be assigned to a given program before they can enter sessions, ensures that accounts where children may be present will never be connected to an unknown user account. There is also a one-click disconnect button in clear and permanent view for all participants, that will immediately disconnect student accounts should a situation develop.
Group + Video Supervision
Regarding supervision, we have a multi-level strategy for added security:
1. All session sessions are scheduled to have
multiple volunteers and/or
multiple students.
Thus avoiding the 1 on 1 interactions that would be most susceptible to malfeasance. This exists to protect all parties.
2. For students involved programs we also gain written confirmation that an
adult member of the affiliated organization is in close proximity to the session as it is in progress.
3. Good Team reserves the right to
record sessions
as both a deterrent and accountability mechanism should there be a report of impropriety (we do not record all sessions). All videos will be kept for no less than 30 days before being deleted periodically unless otherwise authorized — all in accordance with jurisdiction specific data storage laws and best practices.
Session Archives
Good Team also reserves the right to record other session data, including entry logs & session transcripts to help evaluate any reports. As an added level of assurance that provides longer protections, these can be retained for extended periods of time (usually 7 years).
Waivers & Insurance
Good Team will carry all necessary insurance as well as obtain / maintain waivers from all participants and legal guardians.
